In early 1978 I became a TEXAN! After living in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, a job transfer brought our family of four to Allen, Texas. Soon our 2 children were enrolled in preschool and kindergarten. And  me in PTA!

Quickly I learned Texas PTA was more than tennis-shoe clad moms making cookies, hosting class parties and organizing carnivals! My first Board position was Legislative Chair. This exposure lit a passion for advocacy for education and students. During the following 20 years, I held many other PTA Board positions, including President of the Allen High School PTA for 2 years. As president of AHS PTA, I hosted “Inside Our Schools”, a monthly AISD TV program featuring an interview format with the Superintendent discussing current issues, both state and local, impacting our school district.

During the years my 3 children were in school (yes, I had another child  in 1981) I was also a student. I received my BS in Public Administration from Univ. of Texas at Dallas in 1991.

My last semester at UTD brought the opportunity to intern in the City of Allen Office of Economic Development. My primary responsibility was research of the ½ cent local option sales tax to finance economic development. Later I was appointed by the City Council to chair, organize and successfully lead the passage of this sales tax.

Public service has been my calling and passion. Included in my volunteer/community service is Allen Library Board, Collin County Open Space Board, Collin County Appraisal Review Board, Allen Symphony Board, Allen Historical Society Board and Tx PTA Life membership. I was elected to the Allen City Council in 1992 and served  2 terms.

Since moving to Grayson County in 2001,  I have served on the Grayson County Child Advocacy Board, serving as president my last year; Grayson College Foundation Board; Grayson County Appraisal Review  Board; Van Alstyne Senior Center Board; Texoma Regional Council on  Aging; and Certified Ombudsman for Long Term Care Residents.

Full circle from TxPTA Advocate to LTC Ombudsman and Texas  Silver-Haired Legislative advocate!!!  Currently serving as Chair of Rural – Urban Committee and on Operations.

Today my husband and I enjoy country living. We have a small cattle operation on approx. 200 acres in rural Van Alstyne. Our blended family of 5 children and 6 grandchildren (who all live within 30 miles of us) keep us busy with their activities. We are blessed and delight i  sharing our lives with our family, friends and neighbors. To whom much is given, much is required! Luke 12:48
