Fred D. Burrell Jr., earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education (1983) and his Masters in Secondary Education (1991) from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

He has dedicated over 35 years of service as a public servant in a variety of professions such as a police officer, public school teacher, central appraisal district staff appraiser, and landscape manager.  His employment also included 23 years as a County Extension Agent-Agriculture/Natural Resources with the Texas A&M University System from which he retired in 2013.  To stay relevant in his field, he regularly attends trainings in agriculture, horticulture, water conservation, and natural resource conservation.

One of his most cherished experiences was being selected as the National Association of Counties (NACo) Extension Fellow from 2002-2003.  Fred was afforded the opportunity to live and work in Washington, D.C., to lend expertise to our nation’s counties and learned first-hand about the workings of our federal agencies. A major focus of the Fellowship was to take a lead role in enhancing the national partnerships between NACo and the Cooperative Extension Service at the nation’s land-grant universities.

Fred is a native of Nacogdoches, Texas, and has three adult children and two grandsons.
