Ira Wilsker is currently serving his 2nd term as a member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature. As a member of TSHL, he has served on the Criminal Justice, Elections and Credentials, and Technology committees.  He is a representative from the Southeast Texas Council of Governments

Ira earned an MBA from the Graduate School of Business and Management University of Maryland in 1976.  Prior to his MBA, he earned a BSBA from the University College, University of Maryland, and an AAS from Montgomery College, in Takoma Park, Maryland

He is currently an Associate Professor of Management Development at Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, a member of the Texas State University System.  He recently completed his 44th year as a full time faculty member at LIT.   Ira is also a 1993 graduate of the Jefferson County Texas Sheriff’s Academy and was sworn in as a deputy sheriff in 1994.  He has been a certified arbitrator since 1972, and in 1997 won the Dan Bell Award from the BBB for 25 years of volunteer service; Ira is still serving as a volunteer arbitrator, 49 years this year.  Ira has also served on the Board of Directors of Boys’ Haven of America for the past 22 years, including two terms as Board president, 2 terms as vice president, and several years as board secretary.  For 17 years, Ira hosted “My Computer Show” on KLVI radio, and for 15 years wrote the weekly Personal Technology in the Beaumont Examiner newspaper.  He has also held leadership positions in other local and national professional and community service organizations.

Ira is a widower; his late wife of 44 years, Donna, was an Associate Professor of Nursing for nearly 50 years.  He has 4 daughters spread over the country, three of whom teach college, and six granddaughters.  The standing joke around his house was that he was “…swimming in estrogen.”
