Richard Wall Winters was born to Dr. Richard Winters and Jane Gurney Winters on 13 January 1949. He is a Fifth-generation rancher in the Central Texas community of Brady Texas. After graduation from Brady High School he started college, graduating from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. After a brief stint on the family ranch, Richard joined the USAF to serve his country.

Richard served as a member of Strategic Air Command as a Combat Crew member as well as numerous Staff positions, reaching the rank of Major. Upon completion of his active-duty service, Richard attended Texas Christian University, Ranch Management Program and returned to the family ranch. He has been actively engaged in food and fiber production ever since. In about 2019 his daughter Amy Winters Greer and her husband, George Greer joined the family ranch operation.

Through the years Amy and George have assumed the day-to-day operation of the ranch. Today Amy and George, along with her brother R. Wes Winters and his wife Gina are the majority owners of the operation with Richard serving in an advisory capacity.Through the years Richard has been active in many professional and trade organizations, some of which follow:

  • United States Animal Health Association as committee member for numerous committees
  • Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers as committee member
  • Independent Cattle Raisers as Director and President Council member
  • Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers as Director
  • TCI-J Ranch Management Alumni association as President
  • Exotic Wildlife Association as Director, President, and Chairman of the Board
  • The Second Ark Foundation as Director and President
  • Currently serves as a Director of the Menard County Underground Water District.

Richard’s commitment to preserving and improving the status of Agriculture and the environment as well as protecting and improving the condition of the older citizens of Texas led him to seek a position with the Texas Silver Haired Legislature.
