JoAnn Lanelle Wehman McFarland went to be with the Lord Monday, February 28, 2011 at the age of 78. Born at home in Poth, Texas July 6, 1932, she moved to Pleasanton with her parents Amanda and Ernest Wehman in 1933. She attended schools in Pleasanton and was always proud to announce her perfect attendance record through her entire school tenure. After graduating from Pleasanton High School in 1949, she attended Texas Lutheran College, graduating after three years of intensive study. JoAnn worked at the Pleasanton First National Bank and for Humble Oil and Refining Company field office. She was married to Donald McFarland in 1952 and together they operated the Jourdanton Pharmacy and were active in church and community activities. Don passed away in 1997.
In later years she was involved as a volunteer at South Texas Regional Medical Center, Senior Circle, Texas Silver Haired Legislature, Emmaus, and church activities at St. John Lutheran Church. She adored her 12 grandchildren and was always ready to spend time with them or attend a recital or concert. She loved pets and loved to travel. Her bags were always packed just waiting for the next travel adventure. She was an optimistic person, always looking for the positive in situations and in people and always working to make life better for those around her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Amanda and E.W. Wehman, Sr and her husband Donald McFarland.
She is survived by a brother, E.W. “Bubba” Wehman, Jr and wife Fanie Raye; a son Mike McFarland and wife Cindy and their daughter Amanda and grand son-in-law Scott; daughter D’Ann Hart of Liberty Hill and her husband Don and their children Emalee, Katherine, Hannah, Valor, Victor, Jackson and Faith; daughter Gina Dieringer of Georgetown and her husband Brian and their children Taylor, Bethany, Ellie and Brooks; and dear friend, Wayne Beyer.
Serving as pallbearers for this service will be Gerald Phillips, Lee Ricks, Jr, Bobby Bennet, Larry Ferguson, Larry Johnson, Ben Wehman, Dick Wehman and Edward Haverlah. Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W Oaklawn Rd Pleasanton, Texas, Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Funeral service was held at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Jourdanton.
